Use Internet Speed to optimize Windows network settings and Internet browser settings for Internet Explorer and Mozilla Firefox browsers.
When you use Internet Speed, you select your connection type. PPPoE (Point-to-Point Protocol over Ethernet) is a type of broadband connection that requires a user name and password to authenticate and establish an Internet connection. If you connect to the Internet without entering a user name and password, you do not use PPPoE.
To optimize your Internet connection:
1 Close any open web browsers.
2 On the Optimize tab, click Internet Speed.
3 Select your connection type.
§ If you have a broadband connection to the Internet and you are not required to enter a user name and password, select LAN connection without PPPoE. (Typically, T1 and cable connections don’t require authentication.)
§ If you have a broadband connection to the Internet, and you are required to enter a user name and password, LAN connection with PPPoE. (Typically, DSL connections require authentication.)
§ If you’re using a dial-up connection, select Dial-up. (Typically, dial-up connections are not considered high-speed Internet connections, but Internet Speed can optimize your settings to improve response time.)
4 Click Next.
5 If you have not already closed any open web browsers, Internet Speed prompts you to do so now. Close the browsers and click OK.
