When you access the advanced options, Registry Cleaner displays categories with colored dots next to them. The color code is only an indicator of how safe the individual item is to fix. Any item, when fixed, might uncover additional errors when you run another scan.
• A green dot indicates that the category is safe to remove items from.
• A yellow dot indicates that the category may be safe to remove items from, but removing them may cause other problems.
• A red dot indicates that the category is probably not safe to remove items from. Remove red dot items only if you thoroughly understand the Windows registry.
Do not use Registry Cleaner Advanced unless you thoroughly understand the Windows registry.
If you do make an error, you can use Undo It to restore your computer to a working state. For more information, see Running Undo It.
To run Registry Cleaner Advanced:
1 On the Optimize tab, click Registry Cleaner.
2 Click the Advanced button.
Registry categories are listed in a tree view. Click the plus sign (+) to the left a category to expand it. Selecting the top-level category’s check box selects all of the sub-categories.
3 To remove the same items Registry Cleaner Express removes, select the Remove unnecessary registry items check box.
4 To remove unused colors and background patterns that Windows XP uses for the computer desktop, select the Remove unused desktop schemes check box. Or, expand the Remove unused desktop schemes category, and select desktop schemes to delete.
NOTE: This option is available only in Windows XP. Do not delete all of the desktop schemes. Delete only those you believe you will not use.
5 To remove settings that allow you to map your keyboard to other languages, select the Remove unused international keyboard settings check box. Or, expand the Remove unused international keyboard Settings category, and select settings to delete.
6 To remove time zones that you do not use or access, select the Remove unused time zones check box. Or, expand the Remove unused time zones category, and select time zones to delete.
The Windows registry contains a list of every time zone in the world. If you are sure that neither you nor your computer will be in a location, select the time zone to remove it.
7 To remove items from the registry that have not been properly uninstalled or deleted, expand the Remove invalid add or remove programs and Microsoft installer entries category. Select the items that you believe no longer correspond to programs installed on your computer.
Registry Cleaner displays all of the programs in the Programs and Features Control Panel. You decide if a program is listed there erroneously.
8 To show the registry key, select an item and click the Show Key button.
9 When you are finished selecting items, click Apply.
10 To save the results, click SAVE.
11 When you are finished with the results, click Done.
You must restart your computer for some items to be deleted. If your computer does not function properly after you restart it, use Undo It to restore it to a working state. For more information, see Running Undo It.
