Disk Fixer can scan any disk that uses the NTFS, FAT32, or FAT16 partition scheme. This includes hard drives, floppy disks, and USB drives.
To run Disk Fixer:
1 Close all programs except SystemSuite.
2 On the Fix & Maintain tab, click Disk Fixer.
3 Select the drive or drives to scan.
4 To allow Disk Fixer to fix errors without asking you, select Automatically fix errors without asking me.
5 To save the current disk information in case you must undo the fixes later, select Save undo information.
6 To perform a disk surface scan, select Scan disk surface for read errors.
7 Click Next. Disk Fixer checks the disk for errors and displays the progress on a disk map.
8 If asked, choose to fix or ignore each error.
Disk Fixer displays the results. If Disk Fixer finds problems, you may be asked to run Check Disk, a Microsoft utility that checks the integrity of the boot disk before files are open.
9 To set up a boot Check Disk scan when Windows restarts, click Schedule Boot CHKDSK and when the confirmation message appears, click OK.
10 To save the results, click Save.
11 When finished, click Done.
If Disk Fixer finds bad clusters on a disk, the clusters are set aside so they cannot be used again. However, no repair program can retrieve the data on the bad clusters.
If SystemSuite displays the message Disk volume modified... restarting, at least one process running on your computer is writing to or changing the data on the disk. A firewall and the logs that it records commonly cause this problem. Before running Disk Fixer again, close all open programs and stop all processes, except Windows Explorer, SystemSuite, and SysTray.
