Several companies offer data recovery services. Data recovery can take place remotely or in a lab.
Remote recovery may be useful if the disk itself is not physically damaged. When you use a remote recovery service, a remote service engineer can repair damaged data on a disk drive using an Internet connection. Even if you cannot turn on your computer, if the hard drive is spinning without making strange noises, you may be able to use a remote recovery service.
If a disk has been physically damaged, such as in an earthquake, fire, or flood, send it to a data recovery lab. Data recovery labs operate clean rooms, which are particle-free, controlled environments, to ensure that a disk is not damaged further.
