Checking Hard Disk Health

SystemSuite provides the SMART Disk Check tool for monitoring your hard drives and reporting problems.

Self-Monitoring, Analysis, and Reporting Technology (SMART) is a monitoring system for computer hard disks to detect and report reliability, with the hope of anticipating disk failure. SMART Disk Check uses this technology to determine if your drive is unstable.

WARNING:  If your hard drive is making strange noises, such as grinding sounds, turn off your computer immediately. Further operation might damage your hard drive beyond repair or cause data loss.

SMART Disk Check tests for indicators of predictable failures by monitoring mechanical wear and degradation of the disk surface. SMART Disk Check also attempts to detect and repair disk sector errors.
