Deleting Partitions

If your hard drive includes a partition that you no longer need, you can delete it. Deleting a partition removes references to it from the partition table, and the information on the deleted partition is inaccessible.

The deleted partition’s contents do not immediately disappear from the disk. They are unavailable to the operating system. You can undo deleting partition before you reformat the deleted partition.

WARNING:  After a partition is deleted, all data on the partition is inaccessible. Back up important data before deleting a partition.

To delete a partition:

1       In the disk map, click the partition to select it.

2       From the Tools menu, choose Delete.

3       Type the current volume label exactly as it appears, and then click Next.

4       To delete the partition, click Proceed. To cancel, click Cancel.

A deleted partition is converted to free space and combined with other free space. You can use free space to create new partitions. If you accidentally deleted a partition and you have not reformatted it, you can recover it. From the Undo menu, choose Undelete.
